Done deal! Petr Jiracek joins HSV
The Czech Republic international has agreed terms on a four year deal and can't wait to get started at his new club. Rothosen boss Thorsten Fink could give the defensive midfielder his debut in Bremen at the weekend.
Now it is official and the deal done and dusted. After the HSV board gave the green light for the transfer to go through on Tuesday evening (27.08.12), 26 year old Petr Jiracek joined HSV from Bundesliga rivals VfL Wolfsburg. The 1,80 m tall Czech-born defensive midfielder has put pen to paper on a deal which keeps him at the Imtech Arena until June 30th 2016. He was in Hamburg on Monday (27.08.12) for a medical examination at the reknowned University Hospital in Hamburg-Eppendorf, which he came through without any complications. On Wednesday, Jiracek alongside fellow new signing Milan Badelj will train for the first time with his new team mates. Both new signings are available for selection for the Bundesliga matchday 2 northern summit away to Bremen on Saturday (01.09.12).
At the 2012 European Championships in Poland/Ukraine, Jiráček and his national team raised a few eyebrows by finishing their group in top spot. Also in the group were Russia, host nation Poland and Greece. The Czechs reached the quarter finals where they were knocked out by Portugal. The new Rothosen man impressed during the tournament with gritty determined performances, it is hoped that he will be able to bring such attributes with him to Hamburg.
Before moving to HSV the left footed midfielder played under HSV legend Felix Magath at VfL Wolfburg for six months, during which time he made 13 Bundesliga appearances, scoring twice in the process. The Wolves signed Jiráček during the winter break last season from Champions League participants FC Viktoria Pilsen. Fink told the media in Hamburg yesterday that his new signing is a contender for a place in his starting line-up in Bremen on Saturday. Fink said of his new player: "He is a running machine, has no fear and is dangerous in front of goal. He drives his team mates on in a calm manner. He has the heart and mentality we have been looking for."
During the 2012 Euros Jiracek impressed playing on the right, so his versatility will be useful to Fink. Jiracek made his national team debut in September last year. Since then he has been capped 13 times and has 3 goals to his name. He has also Champions League experience and has faced the likes of AC Mailand, FC Barcelona and BATE Borisov.
His enthusiasm was cleary visible as he told HSV.de this week: "I am really up for playing for HSV. After I have settled in, I hope to play a responsible role in the team."
Welcome to HSV Petr Jiracek!
