HSV beat RCD Mallorca 1-0
The only goal of the game was scored by Swedish striker Marcus Berg after 34 minutes. New signing Paul Scharner travelled to Spain but did not play. ![]() Slowly but surely HSV are building up a head of steam, a week before the 2012/13 DFB Cup round one season-opener in Karlsruhe. On Saturday evening (11.08.12) the Rothosen won a friendly match away to Spanish top flight side RCD Mallorca 1-0. The winning goal came on 34 minutes through Marcus Berg. That victory spoiled the season-opening celebrations of the Spaniards, which included an impressive firework display and stadium show.
There were few fireworks on the pitch during the game though. In fact Marcus Berg converted a cross from Marcell Jansen at the second attempt to score from HSV's first real chance of the game (34.). When the Spaniards did manage to get forward, they found no way past the solid-looking Hamburg defence and keeper René Adler, who saved an effort by Pedro Bigas nine minutes into the second half. The victory saw the Bundesliga visitors win their third piece of silverware of the close season. They flew back to Hamburg with the "Palma City Cup" in their baggage. New signing Paul Scharner who signed a two year deal with HSV on Friday, was on the trip but played no part in the narrow victory.
