HSV sign Croatian playmaker Milan Badelj
The Croatian midfielder Milan Badelj has signed a three year contract at HSV. He won't join the club until the end of this month though, because he is involved in Champions League qualifiers with his current club Dynamo Zagreb. HSV had hoped for a better solution until the very end. But the success so far of Dynamo Zagreb put paid to an immediate release of the player. Badelj will now join the Rothosen on August 29th or 30th 2012, as sport boss Frank Arnesen explained: "We have held intensive talks but had to agree that he join us after their Champions League qualifying campaign is over." "He has something which is missing in our current squad. He is a playmaker but not a classiccal style number ten. He pulls the strings from a deeper position, is an intelligent player and a superb passer of the ball", added the HSV sport director. Last Thursday (09.08.12) Badelj underwent and passed a medical examination at a university hospital in Hamburg. The following day he put his signature on a three year deal designed to keep him at the Imtech Arena until June 30th 2015. HSV head coach Thorsten Fink: "Of course we would to have liked him to start right away but we can't change that. He is an investment in our future." Badelj will miss HSV's three opening games of the new season, against Karlsruhe in round one of the DFB Cup, as well as the Bundesliga games against Nürnberg and Bremen. |
