"We will work hard to improve"
The 0-1 matchday 1 home defeat to Nürnberg had a very sobering effect on the team and coaching staff. HSV.de collected the following post-match reaction. Everyone at the club had hoped that the opening game of the 50th Bundesliga season had gone differently. As it turned out, the Rothosen lost 0-1 at home to Nürnberg despite having decent scoring chances. HSV were also denied by the woorwork no less than three times. Hardly surprising then that the protagonists were down in the dumps as they spoke to us after the game... "Must work hard on our game" Thorsten Fink: I think we should have taken an early lead, but sadly we are lacking the necessary conviction at the moment. The outside pressure after our first round cup exit greatly increased during the week which didn't help team confidence. My team failed to deal with it today. I am happy with the effort being put in but we must work hard to improve our game. We will do so over the coming weeks as well as holding intensive discussions. I am totally convinced that the team can do more and would have proved it had we taken the lead. But that didn't happen and the disappointment is massive in not only the players but the fans too, which is understandable.
