HSV 1-1 Augsburg: Post-match reaction
After two straight home wins, HSV had to settle for a point, after they drew 1-1 with lowly FC Augsburg in the final Bundesliga game of the year. They could have easily have taken all three points from the match! Why that didn't happen was the question on our lips, as we went in search of post-match reaction. ![]() No denying that the warm applause from the fans at the end of 90 minutes was deserved. After all a glance at the match stats revealed that HSV had more than 20 shots on goal, 8-0 corners and more than 60 % of possession and still failed to beat the newly-promoted visitors. Read here what was said after full time.
Thorsten Fink: The result is not fair reflection of how the game went. My team created several good scoring chances, but were not rewarded for their effort. Amsif -Augsburg's excellent keeper was always there to deny us, or we were wayward with our shooting. So the only thing to criticise was the failure to take our chances. I am satisfied with the team performance, we played well. I am also very satified with our development since I took charge. We are on the right track to reach our season goal of finishing the season in mid-table. Heiko Westermann: It was a nice Christmas present we wrapped up for Augsburg today. We had eight absolute sitters, and should have taken at least two or three of them. That way we would have had a calm halftime break. Then Augsburg scored out of the blue but we fought back, creating further chances. It was like it has been in so many games: We are much the better team but don't take enough points. It has been a tough first half of the season and we have nineteen points to our name. We can be satisfied with that tally, considering the way we started. Mladen Petric: If you look at the chances we had, we should have won the game. It is sad, but we played well against a destructive team. Keeper Amsif had the game of his life today. Augsburg cleared three times off the line, then scored with a rebound. We played well but got a poor yield. Dennis Aogo: We had plenty of chances and played quite well at times. Our defence was not very good on a few occasions, as everyone saw as they opened the scoring. Still, we fought back and are glad that we didn't lose, even if we could have taken much more from the game. Frank Arnesen: The team is very disappointed, because they had more scoring chances today, than in all of their previous games put together. I particularly liked our first half performance, because we gave little away and nicely created scoring opportunities. But Amsif played very well today. The team reacted well after going a goal behind. I say that because when you create so many clearcut scoring chances only to fall a goal behind, it can have a devastating effect on team moral. Had we won today we would have been worthy winners. When I think of the past two months, I am satisfied with our points tally and the way we have played. We controlled the game today and did not panic when we conceded first. We carried on moving forward. We have another very important game on Wednesday night in Stuttgart, before we fly to our winter training camp in January, where we will be able to work on and further develop our game. |
