Clubs in favour of DFL security concept

On Wednesday, the majority of Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 clubs voted in favour of the 16-point controversial new DFL security concept.

Most of the 36 professional football clubs in Germany voted in favour of the new security concept put forward by the German Football League (DFL). Sixteen points of discussion were voted on and confirmed by DFL boss Reinhard Rauball who said after the meeting behind closed doors in Frankfurt had ended: "I believe that on the whole german football is the real winner today."

New guidelines of the DFB must still be approved by their board at a meeting scheduled for January 25th 2012. That day there will be according to the DFL only marginal things to discuss. Politicians had demanded that the football authorities and the clubs to to come up with a way of dealing with the increasing level of crowd violence in German football.

HSV board chairman Carl-Edgar Jarchow said after the meeting: "We wanted more time before voting on the concept but were outvoted. We think it is a shame that we didn't have more time to discuss the matter with our fans to promote trust and understanding for the concept. Most of the individual points of discussion got our vote because we believe in them."
