Calhanoglu: "My goal is the first team"

In a chat with this week, Hakan Calhanoglu revealed how he was welcomed by his team mates, what goals he has with his new club and what he thinks of director of sport Oliver Kreuzer.

He has finally arrived. Hakan Calhanoglu has has praised heaped upon him even before he arrived at HSV from KSC. Hamburg fans are delighted at the club's move for the talented midfielder who was instrumental in KSC's promotion last season. The Rothosen will not be rushing him into anything, far from it. Calhanoglu will be gradually introduced to first team matters and Bundesliga football. The under-20 man says: "I want to continue to show what I showed at KSC and help the team." The 19 year old on the following topics...
his first impressions of HSV: I am glad to be with the team. I can't train with the lads yet, but I have been warmly welcomed by everyone. It was a strange feeling to suddenly see Rafael van der Vaart walking towards me. I only know him from TV coverage. I already knew Tolgay and Kerem, which is of course a huge help to me while I settle in.

...his training plan for coming days: I can't do much because of my back problem, so I will be doing a rehab programme. But it's great to be close to the team and to be able to meet everybody.

HSV: Everything is much bigger here than in Karlsruhe. The town, the stadium and even the changing rooms. I have so much to get used to. You have to have respect, but I also want to show what I can do.

...personal goals: I came here to help the team, and am keen to reproduce the form I had in Karlsruhe. Of course it will be tough moving from the third division to the top flight and to settle in right away. That is why I am giving myself time. But I have high ambitions and a lot of confidence. My goal is to play in the first team.

his goals with HSV: We missed qualification for the Europa League by the narrowest of margins last season. I would of course like to go one better this season. You can see the quality in the team. Apart from that I am very much looking forward to the northern derbies against Bremen. They are my kind of games.

"I have been warmly welcomed" - Calhanoglu is relishing his new challenge.

possible pressure: I can deal with pressure, it is part and parcel of our job. I can put it to one side. As we were relegated with Karlsruhe it was all going on and we were all under tremendous pressure. That is why I decided to remain there for a further year in order to show that we could do better. Promotion underlined that fact.

favourite position: Of course I love playing the number 10 role. Last season in Karlsruhe I played on the right and left of midfield. In the end our coach decides who plays where. If I get a chance I plan to take it regardless of where I play.

Oliver Kreuzer: I obviously know him from my our time together at Karlsruhe. He promoted me from the youth scheme to the team in Bundesliga 2. He is a great guy with whom you can talk to about anything. He is always there when problems arise and you need someone.
