Johan Djourou has joined HSV on loan from English Premier League giants Arsenal. The Rothosen have secured an option to buy the 26 year old central defender at the end of the coming season.
On Monday afternoon (01.17.13) HSV's latest signing was officially introduced to the media at the Imtech Arena in Hamburg. Johan Djourou has joined the Bundesliga club on a season-long loan deal. HSV have an option to buy the Swiss international who has roots in the Ivory Coast. Djourou arrived in Hamburg and came through the obligatory medical with flying colours. After that he met up with sporting director Oliver Kreuzer to sign the contract.
"Johan was very high on our list of wanted players and will become an integral part of our team. He has leadership qualities, speed, is good in the air and is intelligent in build up play", says Kreuzer. Over the coming days Djourou who was on loan at Bundesliga rivals Hannover 96 last term, will take care of moving his belongings to Hamburg from London and Switzerland. He will meet his new team mates for the first time when he starts training on Thursday (04.07.13. HSV.de met the club’s latest signing to find out his first impressions and his goals with his new club.
HSV.de: Hello Johan, you have just signed a contract at HSV. How are you feeling right now?
Djourou: I am very glad that everything is done and dusted. HSV is a big club with great history, lots of quality and amazing fans. I am convinced that this move is the right one to further my career.
What made you join HSV?
Djourou: It was a perfect fit. The sporting perspectives were very enticing. I could have earned a lot more money in London but that was not the main thing. I want to play as often as possible and I think I can do that in Hamburg.
What are your goals in Hamburg?
Djourou: HSV is a club with high ambitions and I am prepared to give my all to help the club achieve its goals. On a personal level I want to develop my game next season and contribute to making the team successful. The Bundesliga is the most balanced and exciting league in Europe, and after Bayern there are five or six teams who will battle it out for Champions League places.
In the Co-trainers Patrick Rahmen and Roger Stilz you have to Swiss compatriots at HSV. Will that help you integrate?
Djourou: It is great and well help me I'm sure. I have not yet met Thorsten Fink or any of the players yet, but I am looking forward to meeting everyone on Thursday when I begin training. I slightly know Rafael van der Vaart from our time in London as he was with Tottenham and I was at Arsenal.
We wish you a great start at HSV Johan and thanks for your time!
