Done deal: René Adler to HSV

On Thursday, goalkeeper René Adler put pen to paper on a deal at HSV which will keep him at the Imtech Arena until June 30th 2017. Sport director Frank Arnesen hopes Adler will play for Germany again by performing well for the Rothosen.

What the birds had been singing from the rooftops over recent weeks is now official: HSV have signed top class keeper René Adler. The German international (10 caps) signed a deal in Hamburg on Thursday (17.05.12) which will run until June 30th 2017. Adler had already visited Hamburg for a medical examination in March which he passed without problem. Adler (27): "I hope as part of the team to be able to contribute towards playing successful football in Hamburg." Frank Arnesen is delighted to have got his man. The Dane: "When you get the chance to sign a German international keeper on a free transfer I regard it as a special chance. We took that chance. I hope that by playing well for HSV he will return to the German national team. He is very ambitious and keen to return to the form he enjoyed before the injury."

Last year following knee surgery, Adler fought his way back to fitness over eight months, and played his first game for Bayer Leverkusen reserves last month: "I think that I will emerge from last year stronger. It was a hard time for me with lots of ups and downs. It all paid off in end. I feel top fit and raring to go", he told us.
