The first home win of the season was "worth more" than three points. The team managed to keep a clean sheet for a change too. That will boost team confidence and help HSV collect crucial points ahead of the second half of the season. One pillar of strength at the heart of HSV's defence against Hoffenheim was young Dutch defender Jeffrey Bruma, who seems to be improving with every game. In an interview with us, he told us of his current impressions.
hsv.de: Jeffrey, what are your conclusions after the first home win of the season?
Jeffrey Bruma: My conclusions are very good, the mood in the camp is different now. We were all delighted to finally win at home again and have gained more confidence as a result of it. We now believe that we are capable of winning every game. We are on the right track, but still have to carry on working hard. We want to improve every week and every day.
Things seem to be going particularly well for yourself. After initial difficulties, you seem to feel at home in central defence alongside Heiko Westermann. How do you see your personal situation?
Bruma: It was difficult for everyone at the beginning. For the team, the fans the coaches - everyone. It was just as tough for me too - including the physical side of things. I had to get used to the Bundesliga. I knew the league, but playing in it is very different. Now things are going much better. Our coach told me after the Hoffenheim game that I had won 94% of my tackles, which is good and pleases me. What is important is that the team is stronger than at the start of the season. Heiko helped a lot on that front by putting, he putting in a lot of effort . He is a very seasoned player. We communicated well with each other on Sunday. I hope things carry on that way.
What do you hope to achieve with HSV until the winter break?
Bruma: We have another four league games to play before Christmas, so I hope we can climb another few places in the table. In order to do that we must work very hard. I want to improve, as does the team. We can do it together.
And your goals for the summer of 2012? How painful was the recent drubbing in Germany for Holland. Can the Dutch possibly repeat that performance at the European Championships?
Bruma: It hurt. Every defeat to Germany hurts. It was not very nice to watch how simple we made it for them. They were very strong and we had no chance that night. We have to really get our heads down at the championships if we are to achieve anything. The 2012 Euro is important to me, so I hope I get picked to go.
