First win gold plated - Trochowski in squad
HSV are intent on building on the victory over Schalke 04 with another win against Eintracht Frankfurt. Armin Veh has a wealth of players at his disposal. Guerrero seems to have the advantage over Petric, and Trochowski is back in squad. ![]()
Hamburg -Even the rain couldn't stop Armin Veh. The perfectionist refused to let the typical Hamburg weather prevent him from going through every detail and expectations as the team practiced set pieces on Friday afternoon (27.08.10). By the end the balls were flying into the box with perfect precision from Piotr Trochowski. "It is always very tight at the top, often the little things make a big difference" said Veh to HSV.de after the Schalke game. It is unclear whether Frankfurt fall into this category, a team whose target is to hit the 50 point mark. What is clear however is that Veh knows what dangers Frankfurt possess, and is not letting their 2-1 defeat against Hannover 96 affect his judgement.
"They have got a strong team, like to play offensive football and have a trainer that encourages this as well" said Veh at the press conference looking ahead to the game on Saturday (28.08.10 at 15:15 CET on HSV live ticker). Attacking issues were the topic of the day. Van Nistelrooy impressed in his role as main striker against Schalke with two goals, pretty much cementing his place on the team sheet. The big question is who will join him? There are plenty to choose from. Guerrero, Petric or even Trochowski? Both Pitroipa and Eljero Elia impressed on the wings against Schalke as did Petric who played behind the front man. Paolo Guerrero who was still suffering from a light cold watched from the bench. The peruvian may well be back in the starting line up against Frankfurt, if training is anything to go by in which he was given a first eleven training top. Petric can only hope that this is a clever distraction from Armin Veh. The croatian international was looking very dangerous in training, especially in the air, a quality Veh stated as essential to the team.
Not only are Petric and Guerrero battling for a place in the starting line up. Piotr Trochwoski is hoping to be back in squad after recovering from injury. "I have no more problems and have been training well over the last few days" said the German international, about his hopes of a place in the team. It seems as if Veh's selection headache keeps on getting worse. Robert Tesche is the first player to pay the price of a healthy squad. The midfielder has been left out of the team as a result of Trochowski's call up. Frankfurt without Chris and Nikolov - Fährmann in goal Armin Veh's opposite number Michael Skibbe has a few more problems to deal with. First of all the season's opener against Hannover didn't pan out as expected, and to top this off Okka Nikolov injured himself during the week. The Frankfurt legend (16 years in the team) will be missing for two weeks after pulling a muscle in the back of his knee. Ralf Fährmann will replace him in goal. "Ralf has been developing well, but we didn't expect that he would be given his chance to prove himself so soon. I hope things go well for the lad and I will be keeping my fingers crossed" said Skibbe.
The Frankfurt coach will also have to make do without captain Chris. "He is still not match fit, the risk is just too great" said Skibbe. The player who missed the Hannover game after being operated on in the summer has come down with the flu, further hindering his recovery. The target still remains to get their points on the board against HSV, and to do so through attacking pressure. "Our target is to play as attacking as possible and prevent Hamburg from playing their game" said Skibbe on the Eintracht homepage. It seems certain that the Hamburg defence led by captain Heiko Westermann will be in for a busy evening in the Commerzbank Arena. They should be fully prepared to deal with anything Frankfurt throw at them however after their session in the rain.
