Second game, second win - HSV win 3:1 in Frankfurt

HSV celebrates! Hamburg get their second win in two games after a 3-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt

Frankfurt -HSV celebrate their second win in second game of the season. Hamburg came away with a 3-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday (28.08.10) in front of 51,500 fans in the sold out Commerzbank Arena. The home side took the lead in the first half through Halil Altintop after deflecting a shot from Patick Ochs goalwards. HSV fought back though and turned the game around in the second half. Joris Mathijsen headed the equaliser in the 60th minute before van Nistelrooy hit his third of the season to give HSV the lead with nine minutes to go. Paola Guerrero finished the game off and ended fantastic fightback as he made it 3-1 in the dying minutes.

HSV went into this game against Frankfurt full of confidence after their 2-1 over Schalke and gave a very good account of themselves in the Commerzbank Arena. The away side were in charge of the match from the first minute and put  Frankfurt under constant pressure, especially from wide positions. The only thing missing from Hamburg's game were chances and they had to wait until the 23rd minute before their first came. Pitroipa was the player who had it as he found himself one on one with goalkeeper Fährmann after a good one-two with van Nistelrooy. The Frankfurt keeper did enough to close down the angle though as Pitroipa's shot went over the bar.

Behind at the break

This was the only real chance for Hamburg in the first half despite having 55% ball posession and winning 70% of the 50-50 situations. These kind of statistics often have no influence on the actual score and this was the case in Frankfurt as the hosts took the lead in the 37th minute. Amanatidis found Ochs in the centre who let off a first time shot which took a nasty deflection off Altintop, giving Frank Rost no chance of getting to the ball. This goal came against the run of play and things could have been worse as Meier found himself clean through on goal only to shoot over the bar with seconds of the first half remaining. This was the last chance of the half as the home side wet into the break with a narrow 1-0 lead.

The second half was greeted by real Hamburg weather and this seemed to lift the guests somewhat as they started the second half in determined fashion driven on by the pouring rain. The chances still failed to come and it was Frankfurt who took advantage of the slippery surface testing Rost with a number of shots from distance. The HSV keeper dealt with everything which was thrown at him, unlike his opposite number who had to fish the ball out of the back of the net on the hour mark. This came after a period of increased pressure from Hamburg and a series of corners which finally resulted in the breakthrough.

Success from set pieces

Zé Roberto drove the ball into the box with venom and it was met with a towering header from Joris Mathijsen hitting the back of the net like a bullet. The wind was now in the Hamburg sails and Fährmann was twice called upon to prevent van Nistelrooy from scoring before Jansen almost made it 2-1 as his header grazed the bar. Frankfurt remained a threat at the other end despite this pressure from the guests and had their own chances, the best coming from Caio's free kick which was saved well by Rost, as was Amanatidis' shot on the rebound.

Two big saves in the matter of seconds from Rost kept HSV in the game and set them on the path to victory as van Nistelrooy gave them the lead in typical poacher fashion after another corner from Ze Roberto.

Guerrero puts the icing on the cake

This goal sparked scenes on jubilation amongst the travelling fans and this was to get even greater as Paolo Guerrero finished the game off in the closing phases to make it 3-1. It was the perfect goal on the counter as Rost sent Guerrero on his way with a long ball which the peruvian finished off in style. A wonderful goal to cap off a fantastic come back. Hamburg now have six points out of a possible six, the perfect way to start the new season..
