HSV have parted company with head coach Thorsten Fink. The announcement was made by board boss Carl Jarchow and sporting director Oliver Kreuzer at a press conference held at the Imtech arena on Tuesday morning (17.09.13). "Because of recent results and events we came to the conclusion that the decision was unavoidable. We were no longer confident that Thorsten Fink would be able to turn things around. After intensive discussions we decided to do what was best for the club", explained Kreuzer, who told Fink of the club's decision the previous evening. "The decision was not an easy one to make. Thorsten took charge two years ago as we were in deep trouble and steered us clear of relegation. After that we worked well together. But because of recent events we reached the conclusion that we cannot carry on with things the way they are at present. We would like to thank Thorsten for his work here and wish him all the best for the future", added Jarchow.
Thorsten Fink took charge at the Imtech Arena after the club had sacked luckless Michael Oenning. The team was told the news on Tuesday morning, before Fink personally said goodbye to players and staff. Reserve coach Rodolfo Cardoso and under-19 coach Otto Addo will be in charge until a suitable replacement is found: "We will be looking for a new coach as soon as possible and will present him to the press on his arrival", said Kreuzer.
