The long wait is finally over. HSV return to the Volksparkstadion for a competitive fixture for the first time since November! Eintracht Braunschweig visit Hamburg to kick of the Rückrunde.
2. Bundesliga makes it’s long and overdue awaited return this weekend and HSV will face off against Eintracht Braunschweig to kick things off. For the first time since middle November, the fans will see a competitive game at the Volksparkstadion kick off once again. With such a long break, teams were led to playing friendlies
Our Opponents:
The Niedersachsen side have been quite busy heading into the Rückrunde with a look into the transfers. While they have strengthened their back line with Linus Gechter on-loan from Hertha BSC whilst familiar face Manuel Wintzheimer has made his way back up north, also on a loan move from 1. FC Nürnberg in an attempt at more game time. The last victory for the team currently sitting in 14th in the 2. Bundesliga haven’t tasted a competitive victory since October Michael Schiele’s squad will be looking to start the second half the season with a positive result in the Volksparkstadion, considering during the opener back in July. Despite HSV running out 2-0 winners, a positive to display from Eintracht to open the season. A performance they would be happy to match come Sunday.
HSV Round Up:
Finally, The Volksparkstadion will be graced with the Rothosen once again come Sunday afternoon. This time with some fresh new faces. During the January transfer window, so far we have acquired three new acquisitions. Defenders Javi Montero and Noah Katterbach were joined yesterday by 20 year-old striker András Németh. Joining the currently unavailable for Sunday list due to injury, alongside Ogi Heil and Anssi Suhonen, was Xavier Amaechi during Thursday’s training session. During the Friday Press Conference Tim Walter said "Eintracht has strengthened again in the winter, so they are dangerous offensively. But we have also learned our lessons from the first leg and want to defend better in the transition game and the standards.”

Duel of the counter-attacking kings
Braunschweig is only in 14th place in the table, but led a statistics category as table leaders: No team in the league gets as many finishes after their own counterattacks as the Lower Saxons, who got a shot on goal 30 times in this way and scored 5 goals. To improve this ratio, Eintracht secured the services of former HSV attacker Manuel Wintzheimer during the winter break. By the way: HSV came second in the counterattack category, scoring a total of 25 goals through quick switching.
With wings and brains
Another effective tool for HSV on Sunday could be crosses via the outer lanes. SV Sandhausen is the only team more vulnerable in this discipline than Eintracht, who have already conceded 8 goals in this way. And the good thing about it is that goals from crosses are also one of the Red Shorts' favourite disciplines, as they have scored 8 times and are only beaten in this category by 1. FC Heidenheim. Hamburg's most frequent beneficiary of this style of play: Top scorer and first leg double Robert Glatzel.
