1:1 - Curious HSV draw in Aue
Hamburger SV rescued a late point at FC Erzgebirge in an extremely curious manner on Friday. The 1:1 for HSV came in the 95th minute and was not the only crazy goal of this match.
HSV scored a late 1:1 (0:1) at FC Erzgebirge Aue in their matchday 9 away game on Friday evening (1 October). In front of 7,750 spectators, the home side took a rather surprising lead after a dominant early phase by Jonjic, who was unfortunately headed down by HSV defender David in the 23rd minute and thus rather unintentionally provided the curious 1:0. As a result, the Red Shorts could not fully regain control of the game against the now fired-up Violets and found it difficult to attack against the fiercely convincing home team. Thus, there were hardly any scoring chances over the full distance, which is why HSV did not seem to be able to equalise even when they were outnumbered (red card against Messeguem, 69th minute) - before Aue defender Carlsson scored a curious own goal with his head in the fifth minute of injury time after Doyle's crossbar hit, which put the crown on this crazy 1:1..
Curious Auer lead...
HSV coach Tim Walter was able to call on his captain Schonlau again in Aue, who naturally returned to the starting eleven - as did Wintzheimer for Jatta in the offensive. The focus, however, was on Schonlau's centre-back sidekick David. On the one hand, he had Hamburg's biggest chance of the opening phase, but shortly afterwards he became HSV's big bad guy on the other.
But first things first: HSV started dominantly, had almost 80 per cent of the ball in the first quarter of an hour, and was vehemently in the Auer half. This resulted in several penalty area scenes, such as the aforementioned David chance in the 9th minute, but the big scoring threat could not be created in front of the Lilien box. That happened suddenly on the other side, where the hosts came out of nowhere after 20 minutes to two, three actions in a row, one of which ended in a curious way in the goal of Hamburg: David cleared a cross, but headed Aue's Jonjic to the back of the head, from where the ball bounced into the net for 1:0 (23rd). What followed was an Auer home match atmosphere as one knows it: heated, characterised by duels, highly intensive. And so a game developed that was now evenly balanced and in which the Red Shorts could no longer match the dominance of the first quarter of an hour against Aue, who were fighting for every metre. .
... and an even stranger equaliser
After the change of ends, the FCE players, pushed by their own fans, continued their intensive game. They managed to keep HSV away from their own goal most of the time, although they had a superior field position but were not compelling enough. Only in the final phase were the Red Shorts able to make their presence felt two or three times in the Aue penalty area, but for all their own shortcomings this evening, they were also not in league with the luck of the game - until the crazy 95th minute.
Up until then, the Veilchen keeper Männel had always been the end of the line, and even when he was outnumbered - Messeguin had been shown the red card in the 69th minute for a foul on Kittel - he seemed to be able to keep the score level and thus secure Aue's first win of the season. But then came the last minute of stoppage time, when substitute Doyle showed his class for the first time, his dipping shot hitting the crossbar, but then seeing Aue defender Carlson's attempted clearance slip over the top of his head and land in his own goal for a late 1-1 equaliser. What a way to end a controversial and curious game!
