DFB Pokal: HSV meets SpVgg Bayreuth

The Rothosen will be visiting Bayreuth in the 1st main round of the 2022/23 DFB Pokal.

Hamburger SV will face third-division promoted SpVgg Bayreuth in the DFB Pokal 1st Round of the 2022/23 season, which will be played from 29 July to 1 August. This was the result of the draw on Sunday evening (29 May) during the ARD sports show at the German Football Museum in Dortmund. Ex-BVB professional and world champion Kevin Großkreutz undertook the draw and gave HSV this exciting duel.

"The cup is a very special competition, with a very special appeal. We experienced that several times last season. The fond memories of it are still fresh. All the more reason for us to be happy that the cup is starting again with the game at SpVgg Bayreuth," explains HSV head coach Tim Walter. Bayreuth became sovereign champions of the Regionalliga Bayern last season with 93 points (ahead of Bayern München II) and returned to professional football after 32 years with promotion to the 3. Liga.

The final scheduling for the matches of the 1st main round will be made by the DFB in due course.
