HSV striker Selke finishes as second-tier top goalscorer
The 30-year-old centre-forward ended the second division campaign on 22 goals to secure the top scorer crown and in doing so followed in the footsteps of teammate Robert Glatzel.
HSV centre-forward Davie Selke took the title of second-division top scorer after finishing the 2024/25 season on 22 goals. While the 30-year-old was unable to add to his tally on matchday 34 away to SpVgg Greuther Fürth (3-2 defeat), and despite having the ball in the net in stoppage time only to see his would-be equaliser ruled out for an offensive foul in the build-up, his career-best tally of 22 goals saw him beat Magdeburg’s Martjin Kaars (19 goals), Kaiserslautern’s Ragnar Ache and Elversberg’s Fisnik Asllani (each 18) to pole position. Selke follows in the footsteps of fellow striker Robert Glatzel, who took the crown last term also with 22 goals. “Finishing as top goalscorer is a great achievement that I would like to dedicate to the whole team,” explained Selke, who officially received the top scorer canon from kicker’s editor Sebastian Wolff after the game in Fürth. The player who joined the club last summer (from FC Köln) then expressed his gratitude to his teammates in the team circle: “This award belongs to all of you as well, so thank you!”
Selke joins a prestigious list of HSV players to receive this acknowledgement. After Uwe Seeler (1963/64 Bundesliga: 30 goals), Horst Hrubesch (1981/82 Bundesliga: 27), Sergej Barbarez (2000/01 Bundesliga: 22) and Robert Glatzel (2023/24 Bundesliga 2: 22), the centre-forward becomes the club’s fifth striker to finish a league campaign as top goalscorer since the founding of the Bundesliga in 1963.
