Ludovit Reis departs HSV
Hamburger SV have agreed to Ludovit Reis’ desire to leave the club after numerous discussions and careful consideration. The 25-year-old Dutch midfielder has moved to Club Brugge.
After spending four years at the club, it’s time for Hamburger SV to say goodbye to midfielder Ludovit Reis. Following the end of the 2024/25 season, which culminated in HSV winning promotion back to the Bundesliga, the 25-year-old informed the club that he would like a transfer, with one year left on his deal. “After numerous in-depth discussions, we have now, with a heavy heart, agreed to his wish,” said HSV’s board member for sport Stefan Kuntz. “We were extremely keen on continuing to work with Ludo. We wanted to take our next steps together in the Bundesliga and try and tie him down to a long-term contract here because he’s developed massively and was an important figure in our team.” Reis joined HSV back in 2021 on a free transfer from FC Barcelona having been playing for then newly-relegated Bundesliga 2 side VfL Osnabrück. He went on to become a key player for the Rothosen over the next four years.

His importance to the team was underlined on 10th May 2025, when he captained HSV in the home game against SSV Ulm, the evening that saw the Rothosen return to the Bundesliga. It was Reis who scored HSV’s first goal, equalising to make it 1-1 after a nervy start saw the visitors take the lead. “Saying goodbye is anything but easy for us, as Ludo played an important role in our team – both as a player and as a person – in the dressing room and of course out on the pitch,” commented director of football Claus Costa. Kuntz added: “His clearly expressed desire to move, combined with the financially attractive transfer offer from Club Brugge, ultimately led us to the decision to grant Ludovit Reis permission to make the move.” Reis therefore departs HSV after four years and 129 appearances (20 goals, 13 assists). His new side, Club Brugge, play in the Jupiler Pro League in Belgium and will also be in Europe this coming season. “This was not an easy decision for me and I’m definitely leaving with a heavy heart, but I really wanted to take this opportunity. I would like to thank my teammates, the staff members and, above all, the HSV fans for this unforgettable time. I will always have a place in my heart for HSV and wish the club all the best for their return to the Bundesliga!”
