1-0: HSV win friendly against FC Lugano

In the second friendly of the training camp, HSV beat Swiss first division side FC Lugano 1-0. The only goal of the day came from Tatsuya Ito (81’).

Hamburg won the second friendly of their winter training camp in La Manga. Die Rothosen faced Swiss side, FC Lugano, at La Manga Football Center, scoring the only goal of the game in the second half. The deciding goal came from Tatsuya Ito (81’).
Fiete Arp, who was played on the left flank, beats his man after two clever turns.

Balanced game…

As opposed to the game against FC St. Gallen (0-3), where coach Hannes Wolf played a 3-5-2 formation, HSV this time set up in a 4-1-4-1. Returnee Gideon Jung took on the No. 6 role and had the first real chance of the game. With a quick combination through the middle, Fiete Arp was played into the box, finding himself in a one-on-one. His strike was, however, met by the hand of Lugano keeper, David Da Costa (3’), keeping the scores level. In the following 15 minutes, both sides were fairly neutral in their play, though the Swiss side did get themselves in dangerous positions twice thanks to Carlos Antonia De Sousa. The Brazilian failed to convert his shot in the penalty area (25’), and again on the right hand side, after Pollersbeck skillfully saved his effort (31’). Despite two threatening free-kicks, one from HSV’s Lasogga (35’) and the other from FCL’s Alexander Gerdnt (37’), as well as an impressive long-ranged effort from Mangala (42’), both sides went into the break without a goal.

… with a late winner

Hannes Wolf made wholesale changes once again, bringing all outfield players off, meaning only Pollerbeck played both halves. The new side brought something new to the wings, with Vagnoman and Narey on the right and Douglas and Ito on the left. After a few more half chances, the next real chance came in the 60th minute after a dangerous effort from Manuel Wintzheimer. The 20-year-old midfielder troubled Lugano’s second-choice keeper, Noah Baumann. A somewhat refined but well-placed shot then came ten minutes later from Lewis Holtby, who struck the ball from 16 metres out (69’). Pollersbeck then had to make a decisive save not too much later in a battle with Domen Crnigoj (73’). Eventually, Ito (81’) got the winner with a long-ranged effort from the left side of the box to win the game.

“We had good possession in phases but we allowed too many counter-attacks, especially in the second half. Julian also did very well a couple of times. Considering how much training we’ve done and the fact that we were using mixed teams, the game was understandable. We know, however, that we need to do a lot better when the league starts back up again and improve on a few things,” said HSV coach Hannes Wolf after the game.
