1-1 - HSV and Freiburg share the spoils
Kyriakos Papadopoulos put Hamburg into the lead (68’) before Amir Abrashi’s late equaliser for Freiburg (86’).
Hamburger SV ended their winter training camp in a hard-fought friendly against SC Freiburg whiche ended in a 1-1 draw. In front of 150 people at the Estadio Municipal de La Linea de la Concepcion near Gibraltar, the teams played out a 1-1 draw.
Against Freiburg, head coach Markus Gisdol set his team out in a 4-4-2 system once again. In comparison to the 2-1 friendly win against FC Malaga on Thursday, the 48-year-old made changes in 4 positions. Julian Pollersbeck was given a start whilst Fiete Arp, Albin Ekdal and Mergim Mavraj came in for Luca Waldschmidt (not in squad), Sejad Salihovic and Rick van Drongelen (both on the bench).
Papa with the opener, Abrashi with the equaliser
It took until the 68th minute, with HSV having weathered a Freiburg storm, for the Rothosen to take the lead deservedly - captain and defensive beast Kyriakos Papadopoulos was there to net the opener. HSV, however, missed chances to increase their lead and were punished with Amir Abrashi heading home a cross after a quick counterattack, leaving Pollersbeck no chance. And so the hard-fought friendly against close rivals in the Bundesliga ended 1-1.
