11th new signing: Xavier Amaechi signs for HSV

The 18-year-old winger joins the club from Arsenal on a four-year contract.

The summer of change at HSV continues apace with the 11th signing of the transfer window, as Xavier Amaechi joins the club from Arsenal. The 18-year-old winger passed his medical on Saturday (27th July) at the UKE Athleticum before signing a four-year contract that keeps him at the club until the 30th June 2023. “He’s a young, talented player, who is quick off-the-mark, has short, sharp movements with and without the ball and looks for 1-vs-1 situations where he can use his skills. I didn’t really believe at first that we would be able to negotiate the signature of this player, but particularly Michael Mutzel got in contact with him very early on and fought hard to get him to sign here. It was amazing that, despite lucrative offers from other clubs in England and abroad, he decided to join HSV. Whilst we’re delighted with the signing and his potential, patience is going to be needed,” was HSV Head of Sport Jonas Boldt’s assessment of the Englishman.

“A big chance for me”

The new signing was equally excited about his time with the Rothosen: “The conditions here really are perfect. I’m really impressed by the team, the fans and the stadium. I think it’s a big chance for me to play for this club.”

Xavier Amaechi was born on the 5th January 2001 in Bath, in the south-west of England and played from a young age for Fulham’s academy. In the summer of 2013 the left-footed winger decided to cross London and join Arsenal, working his way up the Gunners’ youth teams. A year ago, the then-17-year-old was called up to Arsenal’s u23 side, who compete in the Premier League 2, the competition for the academy teams of the current Premier League sides. The right-winger saw action on 14 different occasions, being directly involved in nine different goals, getting his name on the scoresheet four times. His performances for Arsenal also saw Amaechi gain recognition with the national youth sides, and the teenager, who has Nigerian heritage, has pulled the England shirt on eleven times at youth level. For the u16 side the winger played in six games, collecting two goals in the process, before continuing his progress with the u17 side, scoring one goal in five games for the Three Lions. The Englishman will be hoping that his performances at HSV will mean that he continues his progress with the England youth teams.
