2-1 - HSV win friendly in Magdeburg
HSV won a friendly game at hat 1. FC Magdeburg 2-1 on Thursday. The goals came from Müller and Luca Waldschmidt.
HSV beat FC Magdeburg 2-1 in a friendly on what was a rainy Thursday evening. The conditions made conditions slightly tougher for new Rothosen boss Markus Gisdol and his men. He used the friendly to work on his side’s pressing technique. The tradition-steeped third division home side are pressing hard to reach division two. They may be been two divisions below the visitors but still gave a good account of themselves on the day.
Gisdol: "A good test"
The healthy crowd of 7,000 saw HSV make a bright start despite having seven men on international duty. In fact it was the perfect start for the visitors who took the lead through Nicolai Müller after only 3 minutes, after successful pressing by Müller which led to the breakthrough. HSV played a 4-3-3 system as opposed to the 4-4-2 used in the 0-2 matchday 6 Bundesliga loss at Hertha BSC at the weekend. Then the heavens opened sending torrential rain onto the pitch which seemed to suit the home side, who troubled the visitors at times and forced Hamburg keeper Mathenia into action on more than one occasion.
Gisdol’s men created decent chances, two of which were missed by Waldschmidt who really should have made it 2-0 at that point in time. Hunt should also have increased the lead but failed to do so. The visitors led 1-0 at the break. Gisdol reverted to a 4-1-4-1 for the second half which tightened up the defence. Second half substitute Jatta missed a golden opportunity to make it 2-0. Not so former Cologne and Darmstadt man Exslager, who equalised for Magdeburg on 65 minutes, finishing well from an acute angle. Waldschmidt scored what turned out to be the winner just two minutes from the end. Gisdol told us after the game was over: "We have worked hard and intensely this week, at times focusing on new tactical measures. Obviously not everythin g happens instantly but I saw some good dstuff against good opposition who fought very hard. It was a good test for us!"
