2019 training starts this Saturday

THE ROTHOSEN WILL KICKSTART THEIR 2019 WINTER BREAK TRAINING PROGRAM WITH A SESSION ON SATURDAY THE 5TH JANUARY AT THE VOLKSPARKSTADION. DEFENDER GIDEON JUNG IS SET TO MAKE HIS RETURN TO FULL TEAM TRAINING, WHILE FORWARD HEE-CHAN HWANG IS STILL IN ACTION AT THE ASIAN CUP.

After a twelve-day break, HSV will be back on the training pitch this Saturday (5th Jan) to begin preparations for the remaining 16 games of the season. Head coach Hannes Wolf has called his troops to congregate at the Volksparkstadion training complex at 11am for the first session of the year. More training sessions will take place on the following days in Hamburg, before the Rothosen travel to La Manga Club Football Center in Murcia, Spain, for their winter training camp from the 12th to the 19th January. Not far from the team’s accommodation in Las Lomas Village Resort, lie several football pitches which will provide HSV with the perfect facilities and conditions to prepare for the second half of the season, to start on 30th January at home to SV Sandhausen (20:30 CET).

Jung to make comeback

For the three and a half weeks or so of winter break training, Hannes Wolf can expect an almost fully-fit squad. With the exceptions of Kyriakos Papadopoulos and Jairo Samperio, both suffering with long-term injuries, and South Korea international Hee-chan Hwang, who is playing in the Asian Cup until the 1st February, every player is fit and available. In Gideon Jung, another key player is set to return. The 24-year-old, who was an integral part of the summer plans, has been kept out of action with a knee injury sustained in the pre-season, but has recently begun to take part in large parts of training and now has every intention of making a full comeback. The same is true for U21 youngsters Aaron Opoku and Patric Pfeifer, who are set to join the first team at their winter training camp, giving them a chance to prove themselves to the head coach.

Hannes Wolf can certainly relish the current squad situation. The 37-year-old coach may have started an identical eleven in the last four league games, but has assured everyone that the pack will be reshuffled during the winter break, revamping the competition within the squad, starting this Saturday morning.
