3-0 - HSV win in Sandhausen
HSV RECORDED A COMFORTABLE VICTORY ON THE SECOND MATCHDAY OF THE 2. BUNDESLIGA SEASON BY BEATING SV SANDHAUSEN 3-0 AWAY FROM HOME ON SUNDAY. KHALED NAREY SCORED EITHER SIDE OF HALF TIME, WHILE RICK VAN DRONGELEN ADDED THE OTHER FOR CHRISTIAN TITZ’S SIDE BEFORE THE BREAK.
Hamburger SV picked up their first three points of the 2. Bundesliga season on matchday two with a convincing 3-0 away-win at SV Sandhausen on Sunday afternoon. Titz’s team flew out of the blocks in front of 14,508 spectators in a sold-out BWT-Stadion am Hardtwald, taking a 1-0 lead in the 7th minute through Khaled Narey. Even after the goal HSV continued to fulfil their role as pre-match favourites and doubled their lead with a header by Rick van Drongelen in the 30th minute, giving the team a 2-0 advantage going into the break. In the second half, Narey put himself on the top-scorer charts by scoring his second of the game in the 59th minute and put the game beyond doubt as HSV ran out 3-0 winners claiming their first win of the season.
MERCILESS EFFICIENCY…
Head-coach Christian Titz made two changes from the team that lost the opening-game against Holstein Kiel. New-signing Orel Mangala made his first appearance for HSV coming in for the injured Matti Steinmann (muscular problems) whilst Pierre-Michel Lasogga replaced Tatsuya Ito in the starting eleven. After the first chance of the game it was clear that die Rothosen had the intention of taking their first three points of the season back with them to Hamburg. Sandhausen goalkeeper Marcel Schuhen misplaced a pass, intended for Alexandr Zhirov, which Khaled Narey took full advantage of by coolly firing through the legs of Schuhen into the far corner after some neat footwork to give HSV a 1-0 lead. Just four minutes later, the ball was once again the back of the Sandhausen net with a fine header from Lasogga, however the goal was rightly ruled out for offside. HSV continued to press after the goal and kept asking questions of the Sandhausen defence while also staying compact at the back – the kind of performance that would delight head-coach Christian Titz. Furthermore, the plan by Titz to start Lasogga also paid off as he created another great opportunity halfway through the first half on top of his offside-goal. At this point die Rothosen had complete control of the game with SV Sandhausen not having any joy in attack as they continued to find Rick van Drongelen and David Bates rock solid at the back. The Dutchman was also potent at the other end of the pitch as he headed in HSV’s second goal of the game from a whipped free-kick from Douglas Santos as HSV went into the break with a deserved 2-0-lead at the break with Sandhausen only creating one chance of note through Kevin Behrens in the 39th minute.
…LEADS HSV TO VICTORY
Sandhausen coach Kenan Kocak made two early changes in the second half, taking off Karl and Gipson in the first ten minutes while HSV remained unchanged. Instead of taking advantage of the new changes after a brighter start to the second half, Sandhausen shot themselves in the foot as goalkeeper Schuhen destroyed any chance of a comeback. Die Rothosen profited from an unlucky mistake which was gleefully taken by Narey for his second of the game to end the contest. The game petered out despite Sandhausen providing a bit more pressure albeit not providing much of a threat to the HSV goal. In the final quarter of the game, the tempo had been lost and numerous changes meant it was a stop-start affair until the final whistle. The enthusiasm by HSV was rewarded, thanks to brilliant efficiency in front of goal, with a deserved 3-0 victory that claimed their first-ever three points in the 2. Bundesliga.

No show from HSV
HSV head coach Markus Gisdol was forced into changing his team ahead of the trip south. Long term injured first choice keeper Adler was still recovering from a broken rib before his understudy Mathenia also got injured and was ruled out of the matchday 31 encounter. Up stepped under-21 stopper Mikel to the fray. Key winger Kostic who scored the only goal of the game between the two sides on matchday 14 was suspended so his place went to Austrian Gregoritsch. Ostrzolek got the nod at left back ahead of Douglas Santos while Walace replaced Jung in defensive midfield. Gisdol made four changes in all to the side which lost 1-2 at home to relegation certainties Darmstadt last time out. The new-look formation struggled early on. Augsburg created three top scoring opportunities within the opening 20 minutes. New keeper Mikel managed to keep out efforts by Kohr and Schmid and was grateful to be able to watch a Stafylidis free kick fizz narrowly wide of target. On 22 minutes the visitors were in luck again as an Altintop effort struck the left hand post with Mikel beaten. It seemed to the capacity crowd including yet another sold out contingent of travelling HSV faithful that it weould only be a matter of time before the home side would break the deadlock and they did as Altintop rounded off two counter attacks on 28 and 41 minutes to make the halftime score 2-0 to Augsburg. Mickel was powerless on both occasions and was HSV’s best man before the break.
Deserved defeat
Lasogga came on for Gregoritsch and Jung replaced Walace at the start of the second half as Gisdol opted for a two-pronged attack. Later Jatta replaced Ostrzolek. The ploy simply didn’t work as the Rothosen had more of the ball than in the previous half but were completely harmless in front of goal. Augsburg played a much more intelligent game and struck the woodwork again through Baier. That superior intelligence was underlined late on as Augsburg struck twice through Max and substitute Bobadilla (76., 85.). It was game over for HSV who failed to threaten until the 84th minute for Lasogga and Wood to miss chances. It was simply not good enough and the Rothosen remain just one point above the relegation play off spot in the table. Matchday 22 sees Gisdol and Co. host Mainz who are level on points but two places better due to a superior goal difference. Only a win will do as the teams lock horns at the Volksparkstadion in Hamburg next Sunday (07.05.17, 3.30 PM).
