33-man squad to travel for Herzogenaurach training camp
Hamburger SV begin their five-day training camp at the adidas Home Ground in Herzogenaurach on Monday (14th July). 33 squad members make the trip, including latest acquisitions Nicolas Capaldo and Yussuf Poulsen, along with a handful of academy players.
Following the spectacle of a friendly match away to FC Copenhagen, the attention of Hamburger SV now switches to a pair of training camps scheduled as part of their pre-season preparations. On Monday (14 July), the HSV squad depart for Herzogenaurach via train, where they will spend five days working intensively at the Home Ground of HSV partner adidas before the Rothosen conclude their training camp with a friendly fixture away to Austrian league champions Sturm Graz on Saturday (19th July; 16:00 CEST). “We want to be away for just a short amount of time, so that we can train with intensity and continue to work on certain details with the team,” explained HSV head coach Merlin Polzin. “The task at hand is to concentrate on the specifics with groups of players from each position. We also aim to strengthen the bonds between the players so that they would do anything for one another. We have new things to look with new players coming in and varying set-ups, which will form part of the focus of the training camp.” The adidas Home Ground, which also served as the Germany national team’s base camp during the 2024 European Championship, offers ideal training conditions. “I’m also looking forward to the non-footballing activities on site, such as padel tennis. That will certainly serve as a building block, because they will just do us good.”
The 34-year-old head coach can call on 33 players for the work on and off the pitch in Herzogenaurach. In addition to new signings Nicolai Remberg, Jordan Torunarigha, Fernando Dickes, Rayan Philippe, Nicolas Capaldo and Yussuf Poulsen, the squad also includes six players from the club’s academy, namely Lukas Bornschein, Moritz Reimers, Omar Megeed, Dorian Migalic and goalkeepers Colin Poppelbaum and Emmanuel Johnson. However, the injured Immanuel Pherai and Hannes Hermann, who are both continuing their rehabilitation in Hamburg, will not take part. The travelling cohort will undertake their first training session as soon as they arrive at the adidas Home Ground. HSV’s opening training camp of pre-season, which will be followed by a second short training camp in Mallorca at the beginning of August, can now get underway!
