5-1 – HSV Women celebrate first home win

Following the narrow 1-0 defeat in the Nordderby against SV Werder Bremen, head coach Rodolfo Cardoso made no changes to his starting XI. The visitors from Nürnberg made the brighter start, before the HSV Women launched their first attack in the seventh minute. Coutel lost the ball just outside her own penalty area, Morich reacted quickly, drove towards the box and laid the ball off. After taking a deflection, the ball fell to Karczewska, who turned and fired home – 1-0 to the Rothosen!

Nürnberg were not fazed and continued to press aggressively, putting themselves about physically. The Cardoso side stood up to the challenge, repeatedly disrupting the visitors' build-up play and consistently looking to move forward. In the 23rd minute, Linberg won the ball and played it to Doucouré. Her dangerous cross narrowly evaded Morich. Just a few minutes later, Doucouré initiated the next attack, but her effort following a one-two with Karczewska was initially blocked. The rebound once again fell to the Pole, who had time to pick her spot and slotted the ball into the far corner – 2-0 to the HSV Women!

The Club Women missed their chance to respond immediately as Szemik was there to deny them. Lein's cross to the far post found Brengel, who was completely unmarked but could not keep her effort on target. Szemik was alert again from Brengel's resulting corner and punched the ball clear of danger (35'). At the other end, Morich was sent through once again and drove towards the penalty area. Her first effort was deflected by Pollak, but the ball fell to Bartz, who struck it first time and, with the help of the inside of the right-hand post, made it 3-0!

Szemik then preserved the clean sheet at the other end. Meroni left her marker standing with a superb turn and fired from seven yards, but the HSV goalkeeper got down well to block the effort. The rebound fell to Lein, who only had to tap home from five yards, but Szemik was back on her feet in an instant and produced another excellent save to deny the follow-up. The HSV Women therefore went into the break 3-0 up with a clean sheet intact.

The Rothosen made two changes at the half, with Martens and Dönges coming on for Peneau and Wrede. The opening stages of the second half were initially a scrappy affair. The game swung from one penalty area to the other, with the Hamburg side generally keeping possession comfortably and giving Nürnberg little opportunity to exert pressure. In the 62nd minute, Karczewska once again laid the ball across the edge of the penalty area to Linberg, who wasted no time in firing into the bottom-left corner from around 15 yards. The ball struck the inside of the post before nestling in the net – 4-0 to the HSV Women!

Unlike in the first half, however, Nürnberg now looked more purposeful going forward and ruthlessly punished a mistake. Szemik misjudged a back-pass and attempted to use a body feint to get away from Meroni, but the Nürnberg forward kept her composure, took the ball and pulled one back to make it 4-1 (65').

The substitutions brought fresh energy to the Hamburg attack in the closing stages, especially Brunnthaler. The Austrian was picked out by Doucouré and rose to meet the ball from five yards, but failed to make clean contact and headed just over the bar.

The Hamburg side soon put the result beyond doubt. Wrede's effort was blocked, but the ball fell to Dönges, who cut it back from the byline. The Nürnberg defence was completely disorganised, leaving Eggert with a simple finish from close range – 5-1 to the Rothosen and, at the same time, Leni Eggert's first Bundesliga goal.

In stoppage time, Doucouré had a chance to make it 6-1. The Frenchwoman was played in completely unmarked on the right-hand side of the penalty area and let fly, but Romero was equal to it and produced a strong save to tip the ball over the bar. The score remained 5-1 as the Hamburg side celebrated their first win of the season!
