“A fantastic evening for us“
HSV reached the semi-finals of the DFB-Pokal for the first time in ten years after a 2-0 victory over SC Paderborn. HSV.de has the post-match reaction to the special win.
As soon as the full-time whistle was blown, every HSV player rushed to the away stand to celebrate this evening’s victory with the travelling supporters. Hannes Wolf’s men were by far the superior side over the 90 minutes, and celebrated the club’s progression into the semi-finals after a deserved two-goal victory. Find out what the team had to say following tonight’s clash.
Pierre-Michel Lasogga: There are no words to describe it. The way we played tonight more than deserved a victory. In the first half we had good chances to score, but Paderborn defended well. In the second half, it was extremely important that we were the ones to take the lead. The coach said before the game that set-pieces could be very important as we had the height advantage, and we definitely made the most of it. After the opener we dominated the game and sealed the win with the second goal. It is a fantastic evening for us.
Kyriakos Papadopoulos: I am glad to have made my return from injury and that we have progressed into the semi-finals. In the second half we were the better side and rewarded our performance with the two goals. I’m very pleased for the team.
Hannes Wolf: We are very happy about the result and also the match. The first half was even and both teams had chances. But the second half belonged to us, especially the opening stages. We had the edge going forward, were aggressive and increased the pressure and deservedly scored two goals. It feels good to still be in the cup at this stage of the competition. I am proud of how the team performed tonight.
Steffen Baumgart: HSV more than deserved to progress. The first half was even and either of us could have taken the lead, but in the second half we made too many errors. HSV showed their intelligence and showed us where we need to improve. We would have liked to have reached the semi-finals but today the better team won. I wish HSV all the best.
