Aaron Hunt is staying at HSV

The 31-year-old has extended his contract by two years until summer 2020.

After Lewis Holtby and Gotoku Sakai, another experienced player in Aaron Hunt has renewed his contract at HSV. The 31-year-old midfielder signed a new two-year deal at the club.

Hunt came to the Elbe in August 2015 and has played an important role in the HSV team since then with his footballing abilities and his experience. In the season just gone, the flexible attacking midfielder made his 300th Bundesliga appearance, becoming the 225th Bundesliga professional and the 30th HSV player to reach this milestone. The two-time DFB Pokal winner (2009 and 2015) has made 77 competitive appearances for the Rothosen since his arrival, scoring eight goals and providing seven assists. Particularly towards the end of the 2017/18 season, in Christian Titz’s possession-orientated system, Aaron Hunt become a cornerstone in the HSV starting XI, and he wishes to carry this momentum with us into the Bundesliga 2: "I am fully convinced that with a strong squad and the kind of football we played during the last eight weeks of the season, we will achieve our aim next season. That's why I accepted the offer," explained Hunt upon signing the contract extension. Sporting director Ralf Becker was also pleased about the new deal: "Aaron is an experienced player who needs to take on a leadership role in our squad. With his quality on the ball and his experience in the game, he will be an important pillar in the team."
