Albert Grönbaek is staying at HSV
The Rothosen have secured the 25-year-old Dane beyond the end of his loan deal. Claus Costa: “Albert quickly showed during his time with us the impact he can have on our game.”
Albert Grönbaek will remain at Hamburger SV beyond this summer. Following his loan spell, the Rothosen have signed the 25-year-old Dane permanently from French top-flight side Stade Rennais. An HSV delegation led by sporting director Claus Costa visited the attacking midfielder, who is currently away with the Danish national team, in Helsingør on Thursday (4th June). During the visit, the Dane signed his new long-term contract. Grönbaek will wear the number 11 shirt for HSV in future, having previously worn number 23.

“Albert quickly showed during his time with us the impact he can have on our game. With his intelligence on the ball, technical quality and tactical flexibility, he brings exactly the qualities that can help our squad in a range of situations. At the same time, with the way he plays football and his personality, he has also quickly become an important part of the team off the pitch. His energy, creativity and desire to make the difference are clear to see on the pitch,” Claus Costa commented, before explaining the decision to make the move permanent: “His performances over the past few months have earned him a return to the national team and shown that we were right to bring him in on loan in the winter. It was therefore clear to us early on that we wanted to continue working together. We are certain that HSV remains the ideal environment for him to keep developing at the top level, and we are delighted that he will continue to wear our shirt and write the next chapter of his story here.”
Three goal involvements for HSV
Albert Grönbaek Erlykke has made seven competitive appearances for HSV since joining in the winter, scoring once and providing two assists. He was directly involved in both goals in the 2-1 away win in Frankfurt on matchday 32 and was named Man of the Match. That victory played a major part in the Rothosen securing Bundesliga safety with games to spare.
“I’m absolutely delighted that I can stay at HSV. It feels fantastic. It’s everything I wanted, so it couldn’t have worked out any better,” Grönbaek explained. “The last six months at HSV have gone really well for me. I will always be grateful to my teammates, the coaching team and the backroom staff for the way they have looked after me. Now we want to establish ourselves in the Bundesliga. I’m really excited to see what the future holds for us, and I feel very positive about it.”
