„An enormous day for everyone!“
HSV defeated city rivals St. Pauli 4-0 on Matchday 25 and the HSV players were clearly delighted with the result to what was a special game. Here is all the post-match reaction.
There was no end to the celebrations at full time as fans and players alike celebrated long after the whistle, when HSV’s heroes rushed to the away end to cries of “Derbysieger, derbysieger” and the party even continued in the dressing room. A special day capped by a fantastic result and great performance…
Captain Aaron Hunt: It is an enormous day for everyone! The game had been talked about a lot this week and we gave the answer out there on the pitch today. It is really nice to have been able to score more than once today – that’s what we’ve been accused of not being able to do recently. The game reminded me a lot of the reverse fixture before the opening goal. After we took the lead, St. Pauli had to change and play more offensively, which we knew would play into our hands. We were very clinical on the counter attack. Of course, at the end of the day its only three points but this derby gives us momentum which we will take into the upcoming games. Unfortunately I had to come off because I felt something in my hamstring. Hopefully it isn’t anything serious this time, but we will have to wait and see.
Pierre-Michel Lasogga: It is hard to find the words to summarise everything. After such a long wait, we wanted to give everything and win at all costs today. It is even more amazing to have won here and to have silenced their fans. The hostile atmosphere got me going even before kickoff but you have to channel it in the right way and not get too carried away. We managed to do that today and succeeded impressively. We’ve been criticised a lot recently, but today we delivered. Everyone gave a fantastic performance. Aaron’s free kick was great, and as I striker I had to be there for the rebound – I felt like I ran the 100 metres to celebrate with our fans in under nine seconds! The goals and victory mean a lot to me – I am HSV until the end so I am delighted to have been able to help write another chapter in our club’s history.
Khaled Narey: It is a great day for the fans and everyone involved with the club. We played a great game; to score four goals in a derby is really special. On a personal note, it is a fantastic feeling to have scored in a game like this.
Hannes Wolf: Of course, we are very happy. Not only was it a massive game for the fans, but also very important considering the league table. We had no reason not to give it everything today, and that’s what the team did. The goals came at perfect times today. However, Julian Pollersbeck also played his part, as he made some important saves. In the second half we adapted to St. Pauli’s new style well and were effective and clinical going forward. We are delighted with the victory, because it is such an important occasion.
Marcus Kauczinski: It was a deserved win for HSV today. We defended well for the first half an hour and the free kick was just what Aaron Hunt was waiting for but we weren’t active enough for the rebound. In the second half we were more attack minded and had two good chances that we were unfortunately unable to convert. They could have changed the game. After that we allowed HSV too much space and we were unable to control them. You could see the quality of their side today and we were never able to put them under pressure for long periods – we had planned on doing that a lot more effectively.
