Another Highlight Friendly at Volksparkstadion: HSV to Host Hajduk Split
The Rothosen will face the Croatian side with a rich tradition - and Mario Vuskovic’s youth club, on 15 November at 3 pm. Fittingly, the centre-back will be eligible to play for the first time following his doping ban. HSV members can secure their tickets now.
Following the friendly against FC Copenhagen (2–0) in front of more than 55,000 spectators in early October, Hamburger SV will host another special friendly at the Volksparkstadion during the next international break. Croatian top-flight side Hajduk Split will visit on Sunday, 15 November, with kick-off at 3 pm.
The occasion will be particularly special for centre-back Mario Vuskovic. The 24-year-old will be eligible to play for the first time following his four-year doping ban. He also shares a family history with the opposition that spans several generations. Like his great-grandfather, grandfather and father Daniel, and later even his brother Luka, Mario came through the youth ranks at Hajduk Split, where he also made his professional debut. For Vuskovic, who was welcomed back to first-team training with celebrations from thousands of HSV supporters, his first match following the ban will therefore carry added significance as he reunites with his boyhood club.

For Hamburger SV, the match also marks the closing of a chapter in the club’s history that has been full of emotion, at least for the time being, as board member Eric Huwer explains: “The entire HSV family has been waiting a long time for this day. I have often wondered how I would handle my emotions when Mario eventually stepped back onto the pitch. I am sure that everyone at HSV who has shared his emotions, suffered alongside him and fought for him over the past few years feels the same way. That is why this friendly is dedicated above all to our supporters and gives us an opportunity to say thank you. They have played an enormous part in enabling us, as a club, to support Mario throughout the past four years. None of this would have been possible without their backing.”
HSV head coach Merlin Polzin emphasises: “We are delighted to be able to stage another friendly in such a fantastic atmosphere following the football celebration against Copenhagen. The close bond between the Vuskovic family and Hajduk Split is well known. For Mario to welcome his youth club to the Volkspark, wearing the colours of the club where he has found a second home, means an incredible amount to him. We are therefore all hugely looking forward to an unforgettable afternoon of football, when Mario will finally be back on the pitch wearing the diamond on his chest and the number 44 on his back.”
Tickets for HSV members for the friendly against Hajduk Split are now on sale, with general sale starting from Monday, 19 October. Adult tickets range from €10.44 for standing areas to €25.44 for Category 1 seats. The final digits of the prices are a symbolic reference to Mario Vuskovic’s shirt number. HSV supporters therefore have the opportunity to secure their places at attractive prices for this special friendly at the Volksparkstadion.
