Bundesliga fixture list 2026/27: Season opener in Dortmund, Nordderby in November

Hamburger SV will open their Bundesliga season away at last season’s runners-up, Borussia Dortmund. The German Football League (DFL) published the official fixture list on Thursday. “Of course we would have preferred to start the season with a home match. Even so, we’re really looking forward to this fixture. Dortmund are a top side, and it’s a special ground,” said HSV head coach Merlin Polzin.

The Rothosen last visited Signal Iduna Park in March, leading 2-0 at half-time before eventually losing 3-2. “It was one of those matches that stayed with the coaching staff and the players for a while afterwards. We produced an incredible first-half performance where everything we planned worked perfectly. In the second half, we felt the quality of the opposition and the atmosphere of the stadium. This time we want to do better,” Polzin explained.

After the opening match in Dortmund, HSV host Mainz 05 at the Volksparkstadion in their first home fixture. The match will also bring about a reunion with Ransford Königsdörffer, who recently left the club after four seasons and 138 competitive appearances to join Mainz.

The first international break comes after four matchdays at the beginning of October, with another following in mid-November. Straight afterwards, two major fixtures await the Rothosen in quick succession: the Nordderby away at SV Werder Bremen on matchday 10, followed by a home clash with record champions FC Bayern München on matchday 11. HSV go into the winter break with an away fixture at Bundesliga newcomers SV Elversberg on matchday 14. The first half of the season concludes in mid-January with a home match against FC Augsburg.
