Daniel Elfadli extends contract with HSV
The versatile 28-year-old has signed an early extension to his contract with the Rothosen. Board member for sport Stefan Kuntz said: “Daniel has become emblematic of the journey we’re on together.”
Hamburger SV have extended the contract of versatile player Elfadli, and therefore secured the continued services of one of their key players from last season and one of the faces of their promotion back to the Bundesliga. “From day one, Daniel has fitted perfectly into the team and into HSV as a whole. This, his performances and his consistency have seen him become emblematic of the journey we’re on together. Because of that, we’ve made the decision to secure his services at our club,” said board member for sport Stefan Kuntz. Director of football Claus Costa also lauded the 28-year-old’s qualities as both a player and a person: “Daniel impressed straight away with his strong determination, mentality and flexibility. These qualities have lifted the team and played a big part in our promotion. He hasn’t finished developing yet, but we’re trusting him to take the next step into the Bundesliga, not least because of his remarkable career path.”

The defensive player, who can operate both as a centre-back and a midfielder, is looking forward to this new adventure and is delighted about the trust put in him: “I immediately felt at home in this team and quickly formed an emotional connection to HSV, which has become very special after we achieved our number one target and created some unforgettable moments. For me, that was just the beginning of my time in this shirt. I now definitely want to become part of a new, successful chapter in the Bundesliga, and I’ll keep giving everything to achieve that.”
A remarkable rise
Daniel Elfadli joined HSV from then-fellow 2. Bundesliga side 1. FC Magdeburg before the start of the 2024/25 season, and instantly became a regular starter and a key player. The 28-year-old has played 31 league games for the Rothosen, 30 of which he started. He also scored three goals and recorded four assists. The Leonberg-born man had been a late bloomer and had a fairytale journey which saw him sign his first professional contract at the age of 25. He then flawlessly made the next step to a huge club with promotion aspirations.
After joining the Rothosen, Elfadli had said: “I’ve already achieved more difficult things in my life than getting promoted with HSV.” He was referring to his sensational career path, which took him through the Landesliga, Verbandsliga, Oberliga and Regionalliga before he arrived in the 2. Bundesliga with then-promoted side 1. FC Magdeburg in the 2022/23 season. His mentality and determination saw the 1.88-metre-tall Elfadli continue this journey and play a huge part in HSV’s return to the Bundesliga. With his top-tier debut now imminent, he is close to what will be the crowning moment so far of his remarkable rise, and he is not finished yet. During the upcoming season, Elfadli will be looking to climb to the next level beyond that – together with HSV.
