Daniel Heuer Fernandes signs new deal at HSV
The long-serving goalkeeper has committed his future to the club. Claus Costa: “Ferro has continued to develop and become somebody who truly represents Hamburger SV.”
HSV have extended the contract of goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes, tying down a key performer and leading character in recent years for the long term. The 33-year-old has been part of the Rothosen’s squad since the summer of 2019 and will head into his eighth season in Hamburg in 2026/27.
“Ferro has had an excellent Bundesliga season and, as one of our key players, made a major contribution to us having secured our Bundesliga status. He has shown his quality not only on the pitch but also as a person, playing a hugely important role off the pitch as a leader in the dressing room,” said HSV sporting director Claus Costa. “Over recent years, Ferro has continued to develop and become somebody who truly represents Hamburger SV. His commitment to this team is clear for everyone to see. We’re delighted to continue on this journey together and believe that, with his extension, our goalkeeping group is exceptionally well set up for the future.”

“I’m very happy to extend my contract once again. I feel the faith the club have in me and I have a real connection to HSV, where I’ve just completed my seventh season. When I arrived in 2019, I honestly never thought I’d one day be saying that bit!” said Heuer Fernandes. “But over the years, and through everything we’ve experienced together – the highs and the lows – HSV has come to mean an incredible amount to me. That makes it even more amazing that, in our first season back in the Bundesliga, we managed to stay up so comfortably. Now we want to build on that and continue the club’s positive development. I’m really looking forward to continuing to play a role as a leader here, both on and off the pitch, and to remain a part of this unique club.”
Seven years and 190 appearances for HSV
Daniel Heuer Fernandes joined HSV from fellow 2. Bundesliga side SV Darmstadt 98 in 2019 and has since made 190 appearances for the club. Among the current squad, only Bakery Jatta (233) has played more games for HSV. That’s not all: among goalkeepers in HSV history, only seven players have made more competitive appearances wearing the diamond than Heuer Fernandes. Frank Rost (203) and Özcan Arkoc (207) are both within touching distance, while club legend Horst Schnoor – who sadly passed away earlier this year – remains well clear at the top with 507 appearances.
Last season saw Heuer Fernandes play his first Bundesliga campaign with HSV. He featured in 33 matches and played 2,970 minutes, establishing himself as one of the Rothosen’s ever-presents. His performances were reflected in the numbers, too: he kept six clean sheets (eighth in the league), made 106 saves (seventh overall), and received the highest average weekly rating from kicker magazine of any goalkeeper in the German top-flight. Now, the German-Portuguese goalkeeper is looking forward to continuing his successful journey with HSV.
