HSV and the striker have agreed to part ways ahead of the 2025/26 season. Selke scored a league-high 22 goals on the way to helping the Rothosen earn promotion last term.
Hamburger SV and Davie Selke have agreed to part ways ahead of the 2025/26 season. The 30-year-old centre-forward scored 22 goals on his way to finishing as the top goalscorer in Bundesliga 2 last season, helping the club in their successful bid to earn promotion. “From the start, Davie identified fully with our goal and his role. He led by example, both on and off the pitch, and gave his all for the club. It’s precisely this passion that defines him and we would like to thank him for it,” said Stefan Kuntz, HSV’s board member for sport. “We held open and honest discussions about his future at HSV which were characterised by transparency and mutual understanding. We wish Davie and his family all the best for the future. They will always be welcome here at the Volkspark.”

The striker has featured in 238 Bundesliga games over the course of his career, while his contract at HSV expired on 30th June 2025. Sporting director Claus Costa also praised Selke for his performances for the club, saying: “During his time at HSV, Davie delivered exactly what we had hoped for upon signing him, bringing experience, physicality, goals and a strong mentality with him. He was a valuable addition to our squad and played a key role in our promotion to the Bundesliga. These memories will always be looked back on fondly, and Davie will always be welcome here in Hamburg.”
Selke arrived at the club in summer 2024, joining from 1. FC Köln, who had only recently been relegated from the Bundesliga. The 1.95m-tall striker scored a league-high 22 goals last season and became known for his incredible mentality. Selke’s team player attitude, coupled with a willingness to always give it 100% and winning mindset quickly made him a fan favourite, as did his performances on the pitch. These included last-minute goals in Regensburg and against Karlsruhe, as well as five braces. “The last year at HSV has been the most emotional year of my entire career. Everything that we were able to experience together last season, including our successful promotion, will forever remain in my heart and in my mind. Every single goal scored for HSV, every celebration with the fans and especially the moments out on the pitch after the game against Ulm, as well as our promotion party at city hall — they will all remain unforgettable memories. I’m extremely grateful to my teammates, coaches, the staff and the incredible fans,” Selke said. “HSV will forever remain a part of my life. I wish HSV all the best in the Bundesliga!”
