DFB-Pokal second-round draw: HSV away to Heidenheim
The Rothosen will face their Bundesliga rivals in the second round, with the tie to be played on 28th or 29th October.
HSV have been drawn away to 1. FC Heidenheim in the second round of the DFB-Pokal. The draw took place on Sunday evening (31st August) at the German Football Museum in Dortmund, with long-time Bundesliga and FIFA referee Dr. Felix Brych, who retired from refereeing this summer after 359 Bundesliga matches, conducting the draw.
That means HSV will meet Heidenheim twice within a matter of weeks, with the Bundesliga fixture at the Volksparkstadion also scheduled for 20th September (15:30 CEST kick-off). Heidenheim reached the second round with a 5-0 victory away to Bahlinger SC, while HSV needed extra time to get past Oberliga side FK Pirmasens 2-1.
“Of course, we would have liked a home tie again in the cup, but now we’re looking forward to facing Heidenheim in what will be a very tough game. It’s a challenge we want to rise to and win,” said head coach Merlin Polzin in his immediate reaction to the draw.
The second-round matches will be played on 28th and 29th October, with exact kick-off times to follow.
