Dompé to remain suspended from competitive games until further notice
The 30-year-old winger has been handed a record six-figure fine by the club. He was informed of this in a further disciplinary meeting. Dompé has now made his first public statement, in which he apologises and declares his intention to engage in social work.
Hamburger SV has made further decisions regarding the future of winger Jean-Luc Dompé. Sporting management held another meeting with the 30-year-old on 3rd February, having already suspended him last week for serious misconduct. The player was informed that he would be fined a club-record six-figure sum and remain excluded from Bundesliga matchday squads until further notice.
Jean-Luc Dompé once again apologised, saying: “I’m aware that a simple apology is not enough. I absolutely failed to live up to my position as a role model. I made serious mistakes and I will, of course, accept the full consequences. I understand the disappointment of the club, the coaching staff and all the fans who have supported me up to this point. I am incredibly sorry. I also apologise for letting the team down during the crucial period.” The Frenchman also stated his intention to engage in social work.
The winger is expected to return to training this week. HSV will closely monitor and assess his progress regarding a possible return to competitive play.
Dompé was stopped during a traffic check at the end of January. During a breathalyser test, the police detected alcohol in his system. The club reacted decisively to this misconduct by suspending him until further notice.
