Douglas Santos leaves HSV for Zenit St. Petersburg

The 25-year-old Brazilian signs a five-year contract for the reigning Russian champions

Douglas Santos has left HSV and signed for Zenit St. Petersburg in the Russian league. After the 25-year-old Brazilian successfully passed his medical in Russia on Thursday (4th July), he signed a five-year contract with the defending Russian champions.

Santos signed a five-year contract on transfer deadline day 2016 for HSV after joining from Atletico Mineiro, having just that summer picked up a gold medal at his home Olympics in Rio de Janeiro with the rest of the Brazilian national team. In the past three years the left-back played 47 Bundesliga games for the club, recording one goal and two assists in the process, whilst only missing one of the 34 second tier games last season, adding a further goal and 6 more assists, showing his commitment to the club despite the relegation in 2018. The Brazilian’s journey now takes him to the five-time Russian champions, who, through their title triumph last season, are automatically into the group stages of this season’s Champions League. Hamburger SV would like to place on record their thanks to Santos for his professional demeanour and commitment to the club and would like to wish him all the best for the future.
