Eight Rothosen on international duty

Here's an overview of which HSV players will be in action during the March international break.

The first international break of the year is fast approaching, with several Rothosen having been called up by their respective national teams. Miro Muheim (pictured, Switzerland), Giorgi Gocholeishvili (Georgia), Luka Vuskovic (Croatia) and Philip Otele (Nigeria) will all be in action for the senior sides, while Damion Downs (USA U21), Fabio Balde (Portugal U20), Hannes Hermann (Germany U20) and Otto Stange (Germany U19) have been called up by various youth national teams. Warmed Omari turned down a call up to the Comoros national team due to personal reasons. The following HSV players have not been called up this month due to injury: Yussuf Poulsen (Denmark), Nicolas Capaldo (Argentina, both were in the provisional squads), Alexander Rössing-Lelesiit (Norway U20/U21) and Moritz Reimers (Germany U19).

A special call up for Philip Otele

Philip Otele, who scored his first Bundesliga goal in the 3-2 defeat in Dortmund last weekend, can now look forward to another milestone achievement in his career. The 26-year-old has earned his first call-up to Nigeria’s senior national team. Their upcoming internationals against Iran and Jordan are set to be played in Antalya, Turkey, due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. “It’s a highlight for every footballer. At the moment, it’s a dream come true that I’ve been able to make a reality through hard work and steady progress,” Otele said in an interview with HSV.de a few weeks ago.

Elsewhere, Muheim will be away with Switzerland as they prepare for the World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the USA. As part of this, they will take on Germany in Basel on Friday night. Four days later, Switzerland will face Norway in Oslo. “It’s always special to play against Germany with Switzerland,” Muheim said. “Norway as well – both are extremely strong sides. I’m looking forward to the games.”

Centre-back Luka Vuskovic will be travelling to Florida with Croatia in order to take on Colombia and Brazil. There are several exciting fixtures for the Rothosen on international duty with their youth sides as well, with Otto Stange and the Germany U19s taking on Sweden, Greece and Austria in the U19 EUROs Elite round.
