Fiete Arp signs on until 2020

The 18-year-old academy graduate, who joined HSV in 2010, has made a bold statement by extending his contract, which was due to expire in June 2019, by additional year until 2020.

Bundesliga debut, a first goal, the youngest goalscorer in HSV’s history – Fiete Arp’s breakthrough season, at the tender age of 17, was the stuff of dreams. It was therefore no surprise that the young striker, who joined the club in 2010 and progressed through all the age groups in the academy, has been attracting great interest from notable big clubs. The future of the now 18-year-old has been a hot topic in recent months after an impressive debut season that saw the youngster make 18 Bundesliga appearances (2 goals).

But the speculation has finally ended, after Fiete Arp put pen to paper on a new deal with HSV until 30th June 2020, despite a host of lucrative offers from some big clubs. "For Fiete, he knew as soon as we were relegated that he wanted to stay here and do all he could to help achieve promotion with his club. In the end, it’s a great sign for us that such an key prospect like Fiete is staying with us, despite the offers on the table for him," told a delighted sporting director Ralf Becker about Arp, who added: "To leave this club after relegation was a never an option for me. Especially in such a difficult period, I couldn’t leave HSV, nor would I want to. Instead I want to give something back. For that reason, it was clear to me very quickly that my journey here at HSV is not over yet."
