Fixture lists released for new 2. Bundesliga campaign

Hamburger SV have the honour of opening the new 2. Bundesliga season in September, when recently-relegated Fortuna Düsseldorf travel to the Volksparkstadion on Friday 18th September for a 6:30pm kick-off. The fixture lists were released by the DFL on Friday (7th August), with an exciting programme awaiting the Rothosen in the first few weeks of the season, with a trip to the other recently-departed Bundesliga side in SC Paderborn in the first away trip of the season during the last weekend in September.
 
“With Düsseldorf, Paderborn and Aue we have an interesting start to the season and will have to be at our best on matchdays 1 and 2 against both teams relegated from the Bundesliga last season. We still have hope that we’ll be able to play our home games with the HSV fans backing us in the stadium,” were sporting director Michael Mutzel’s thoughts on the fixture list. 

The first Hamburg derby of the season will take place at the Volksparkstadion on Matchday 6 (30th October – 2nd November), with the return fixture at the Millerntor taking place at the end of February on Matchday 23. The last matchday of the season sees northern neighbours Eintracht Braunschweig make the short trip north to Hamburg, having last month gained promotion back to the second tier.
