HSV and Stefan Kuntz mutually agree to part ways
The board member for sport requested an immediate termination of his contract after Christmas due to personal and family-related reasons. The supervisory board accepted this request.
Stefan Kuntz is no longer board member for sport at HSV. The 63-year-old reached out to the supervisory board of HSV Fußball Management AG and requested an immediate termination of his contract on 31st December 2025. The supervisory board has accepted his request.
Kuntz, who was appointed board member for sport in May 2024 and was with the Rothosen when they won promotion to the Bundesliga in 2025, said: “Sometimes, there are more important things than football. That is the case for me now. I do not wish to say anything more about this and I ask that this wish is respected. I would like to thank HSV for a brilliant year and a half. I wish the team and everyone involved in the management all the best for the future.”
On behalf of the supervisory board, chairman Michael Papenfuß thanked Kuntz for his work: “Stefan has achieved a lot with his team. We wish him all the best for his personal future.” Commenting on Kuntz’s sudden departure from the executive board, he said: “In recent days, we have held many discussions and, with board member Eric Huwer and a strong second level of management, we are well positioned for the tasks ahead.” From the start of training today, the focus will be on the second half of the Bundesliga season and, of course, on the current transfer window.
The team will complete its first training session of 2026 today (Friday 2nd January) and begin preparations for the first matches of the new year. HSV will travel to Freiburg on 10th January, before the season continues with two home matches against Leverkusen (13th January) and Mönchengladbach (17th January) at the Volksparkstadion.
