HSV fans honour Keegan with spectacular tifo
HSV fans honoured club legend Kevin Keegan with a spectacular tifo across the Nordtribüne ahead of the Bundesliga clash with Mainz 05.
HSV fans paid an impressive tribute to club icon Kevin Keegan ahead of the Bundesliga match against Mainz 05 (0-5). A spectacular tifo stretched across the entire Nordtribüne, with a huge portrait of the HSV legend at its centre.
Keegan passed away on 20 July this year at the age of 75 because of cancer. Between 1977 and 1980, the Englishman made 113 competitive appearances for HSV, scoring 40 goals and becoming an undisputed fan favourite. In the 1978/79 season, he helped to lead the Rothosen to the German championship, while Keegan was also awarded the Ballon d’Or twice in succession, in 1978 and 1979.
It was yet another memorable tifo in honour of the former superstar, who was also remembered in impressive fashion in his home country England after his passing. Ahead of the Premier League clash between his two former clubs Newcastle United and Liverpool FC, fans at St James’ Park unveiled a huge tifo in honour of Keegan. An LFC banner paid tribute to him with the words: “Keegan is the greatest Shankly ever found.” Both teams also entered the pitch wearing shirts with “Keegan 7” printed on them.
Rest in Peace, Mighty Mouse!
