HSV lose latest friendly 0-2 against Antalyaspor
The Turkish top flight side’s goals came from Maicon and Eto’o.
On Monday evening (31.07) HSV lost the second friendly of their training camp stay in Austria, going down 0-2 against Turkish side Antalyaspor in front of 800 at the Silberstadt-Arena in Schwaz. Markus Gisdol’s side produced a decent first half performance but failed to score – unlike the Turks who scored with a 39th minute header by Maicon Marques before former Barcelona and Chelsea superstar Samuel Eto’o made it 2-0 from the penalty spot on the hour mark.
Around a fortnight before the official start to the 2017(18 season Gisdol fielded a side which could face VfL Osnabrück in round 1 of the DFB Cup in the opening game of the season against the team which finished fifth in their league last term. The Rothosen coach (like so often last season) opted for a 4-2-3-1 formation. New signing Andre Hahn was out wide on the left in place of injured regular left winger Kostic while Sven Schipplock began alone up front. Gisdol did not risk playing Greekdefender Kyriakos Papadopoulos, who is still struggling with the calf problem which plagued him at the end of last season. Gideon Jung also missed out with a shin problem. Bjarne Thoelke lined up in central defence alongside captain for the day Mergim Mavraj, as usual skipper Sakai took his place on the bench.
Maicon header - Eto'o from the spot
The game began brightly with mainly one way traffic towards the Turkish goal. Nicolai Müller tested their keeper Kaplan with a shot in the opening minutes which the stopper needed two chances to hold onto. There followed further chances for Müller (6.) and Diekmeier (11.) from distance but the best chance fell to Hahn who struck the crossbar after being nicely played in by Müller on 26 minutes. Then the same thing happened that happened against Sparta Rotterdam – the first half chance saw the opposition break the deadlock. A Karabulut free kick was nodded home past Mathenia by Maicon Marques on 39 minutes to give the Turks a 1-0 half time lead.
Gisdol made seven changes at the start of the second half and it took his side a while to get used to them. On the hour mark Mathenia brought down El Kabir inside the Hamburg box and the resulting spot kick was duly dispatched into the back of the net by Samuel Eto’o to make it 2-0. The Rothosen failed to trouble the Turkish goal during the final half hour of play apart from a last minute effort by substitute Lasogga so the Turks won 2-0.
