HSV only manage goalless draw in Fürth
HSV draw 0-0 with SpVgg Greuther Fürth on Matchday 7. The visitors ended the game strongly but did not manage to find a winner.
Hamburger SV recorded a 0-0 draw against Greuther Fürth on Thursday. There was not much for the 14,956 fans inside the Sportpark Ronhof stadium to be excited about in the first half as neither side created any real chances. Die Rothosen took control of the game in the second half but despite creating a few good openings, they could not find the breakthrough. Substitute Fiete Arp had a great chance to break the deadlock in the 79th minute but his effort was blocked.
A tight first half…
HSV coach Christian Titz made four changes from the team that faced Regensburg bringing in centre back David Bates, holding midfielder Janjicic and attacking duo Lasogga and Narey. Despite this, the two forwards could not make a real impact in the first half as the game was a scrappy affair with neither side getting a real foothold in the game. The home side could have taken the lead in the second minute as Wittek fired in a wicked free-kick from nearly 30 yards that crashed against the woodwork. This chance was the only real opportunity for Fürth to take the lead in the first half as Titz’s team grew into the game after the first fifteen minutes. Die Rothosen were compact and hard to break down, however this sacrificed some attacking threat, leading to chances being few and far between for the visitors. Fürth were also solid at the back and did not given HSV any real opportunities to score as they snuffed out Lasogga & Co. in the first half. The away side could only register two half-chances in the first 45 minutes, both coming down the left wing. The first half was mainly dominated by tackles and aerial duals as both teams went in goalless at the break.

…and numerous of chances in the second half
There was little change to the flow of the game after the break, however HSV managed to have more attacking impetus. The visitors had three big chances within ten minutes of the restart and did actually manage to have the ball in the back of the net, however it was chalked off for an infringement. The referee had decided that Bates had committed a foul in the build-up as Janjicic’s free-kick floated past everyone into the goal. The home side continued to defend valiantly whilst also trying to catch Die Rothosen on the counter, however the majority of the attacking play belonged to HSV. The visitors did not have much luck in front of goal which was epitomised when Arp was found by Hwang in the six-yard box but his shot was well blocked. The score stayed goalless for the rest of the game as HSV dropped two points in a game where they may feel they deserved something more.
