HSV PART WAYS WITH GISDOL

BOARD DECIDE TO DISMISS COACHING TEAM FOLLOWING 2-0 DEFEAT TO 1. FC KÖLN.

HSV will be looking for a new head coach for the upcoming relegation battle. Following discussions with sporting director Jens Todt after Saturday's defeat to last-placed Köln,  the HSV Fußball AG board of directors came to the decision to relieve head coach Markus Gisdol, as well as his assistants Frank Fröhling and Frank Kaspari, of their duties. The board communicated their decision in a private discussion with the coaching team on Sunday (21st January) morning.

"Parting ways with coaches prematurely is fundamentally not something we want to do, but we believe that a new impulse is required urgently in order for us to achieve our goal of staying in the Bundesliga," said chairman Hereibert Bruchhagen. Gisdol, who has been head coach since 25th September 2016, accepted the decision with composure, before saying farewell to his colleagues.

Fitness coach Daniel Müssig took training on Sunday morning. A decision on Gisdol's replacement will be made as soon as possible.
