EURO qualifying and teammates face off: HSV players on international duty
After the match at SV Wehen Wiesbaden, not all HSV players returned to the city straight away – because for some of them it’s Portugal, Malta or the USA instead of Hamburg.
Following the 1-1 draw in the Hessian capital, HSV head coach Tim Walter gave his players two days off, with them returning on Tuesday afternoon. Eight will however not be on the training pitch at the Volksparkstadion due to being in action for their national teams during the current international break. Here is an overview of the Rothosen’s international players, their destinations and a reunion of two teammates who will face each other as rivals.
- Laszlo Benes is involved for the Slovakia senior side, and will go away to Portugal in EURO 2024 qualifying on Friday 13th October and to Luxembourg on Monday 16th October.
- Denis Hadzikadunic’s Bosnia and Herzegovina are likewise involved in European Championship qualifying, and will go to Liechtenstein on Friday 13th October before hosting Portugal on Monday 16th October.
- Stephan Ambrosius and Ransford Königsdörffer are both on international duty for Ghana once again. Ghana will face Mexico on Sunday, 15th October, before playing against the USA on Wednesday, 18th October, with both fixtures taking place in the States.
- Ignace van der Brempt will play for the Belgium U21s in the EURO qualifiers against Malta (Friday, 13th October) and Hungary (Tuesday, 17th October), when he will face his HSV teammate and good friend Andras Nemeth.
- In addition to the U21 EURO qualifier against Belgium, Andras Nemeth will also contest a qualification match against Scotland (Friday, 13th October).
- Valon Zumberi has already joined up with the Kosovo U21s, who have an U21 EURO qualifier away to Bulgaria.
- Nicolas Oliveira was called up to the Germany U20s ahead of their games against Portugal (Friday, 13th October) and Czechia (Monday, 16th October).
