HSV recall Stange and loan Pherai to Elversberg
Midfielder Immanuel Pherai has moved on loan to the second-tier side, while HSV academy product Otto Stange has returned early to his hometown club and signed a previously agreed contract extension.
There has been a double move involving Hamburger SV and SV Elversberg. HSV have loaned midfielder Immanuel Pherai to the current second-placed side in the 2. Bundesliga. In return, the existing loan of academy graduate Otto Stange has been ended early, with the 18-year-old forward returning immediately to Hamburg. “We’ve been in close contact with Elversberg and were able to agree on a solution that works well for everyone involved,” said sporting director Claus Costa. “Manu came to us wanting a change that would give him more regular playing time. At the same time, we’re bringing Otto back – a player who gives us added flexibility and depth in attack. He can play in several positions and is already very well settled within the group, both on and off the pitch. We wish Manu every success with SVE and are delighted to have Otto back with us.”

Stange signs agreed contract extension
Otto Emerson Stange joined HSV’s youth academy from Eimsbütteler TV in the summer of 2022. The Hamburg native continued his development with HSV’s U17 and U19 sides before making his professional debut in November 2024 in the 2. Bundesliga match away at Braunschweig, becoming the fourth-youngest HSV player since the Bundesliga was founded in 1963 at the age of 17 years and seven months. The 1.87m centre-forward has since made 15 competitive appearances for the first team, scoring twice. As part of his return to HSV, Stange signed a contract extension that had already been agreed in the summer of 2025 (photo). “I’m very grateful for the experiences I was able to gain in Elversberg and will remember those moments fondly. I don’t need to explain that Hamburg and HSV are my home. I’m simply very happy to be back and, at the same time, to have extended my contract at HSV,” commented the Germany U19 international.
Immanuel Pherai joined HSV from then league rivals Eintracht Braunschweig ahead of the 2023/24 season. The 25-year-old Suriname international has made 57 competitive appearances for HSV so far, scoring six goals and providing nine assists. “For me, the most important thing is getting regular minutes again. That’s why I’m really pleased this loan move to Elversberg has been completed. I’ll of course continue to keep a close eye on HSV,” explained Pherai.
Best of luck in Elversberg, Manu! And welcome back, Otto!
