HSV says goodbye to six players

The club said its goodbyes to Pierre-Michel Lasogga, Fiete Arp, Lewis Holtby, Orel Mangala, Leo Lacroix and Hee-chan Hwang.

Following a 3-0 win in the final match of the season against MSV Duisburg, Hamburger SV said goodbye to six players. Pierre-Michel Lasogga, Fiete Arp, and Lewis Holtby will all leave the club, as will Orel Mangala, Leo Lacroix and Hee-chan Hwang, who were all on loan.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga is leaving HSV after nearly six years with the club. The striker came to the club on loan from Hertha BSC in September 2013 and was signed after a strong debut season (15 goals). Most memorable was his header in the 2014 relegation playoffs against Greuther Fürth (1-1) that helped to ensure HSV’s continued place in the first division. Lasogga spent the 2017/18 season on loan to Leeds United. In total, the 27-year-old played 138 games for HSV and had a hand in 55 goals (49 goals, six assists). His contract, which was set to expire on 30th June 2019, will not be renewed.

Lewis Holtby also came to HSV on loan from Tottenham Hotspur in September 2014. Hamburger SV then signed the midfielder during the summer of 2015. Holtby also played 138 total games for HSV, picking up 15 goals and 18 assists. Holtby’s contract was up for renewal this summer, and will also not be extended.

Fiete Arp has been at the club since July 2010. The striker came to HSV when he was just 10 years old, and made his way up through the ranks of HSV’s youth academy. He made his first-team debut in September 2017. Arp became the youngest goal scorer in club history (17 years, nine months, 22 days) when he scored his first goal as a professional during an away game against Berlin in October 2018. In total, Arp featured in 38 games for the club, and had a hand in seven goals (four goals, three assists). The 19-year-old will join Bayern München as of 1st July 2019.

Meanwhile, Orel Mangala will return to VfB Stuttgart. The Belgian U21 international came to HSV on loan in August 2018 and featured in 34 games (one goal, five assists). Hee-chan Hwang will return to RB Salzburg as of 1st July 2019. The 23-year-old South Korean attacker featured in 21 games for HSV (two goals, two assists). Finally, Leo Lacroix will return to AS St. Etienne in France, after appearing in 18 games for HSV. The 27-year-old picked up his first goal during the final game of the season against MSV Duisburg.

HSV would like to thank all six players for their efforts at the club and wishes them all the best in their future endeavors.
