HSV secure Fabio Vieira signing
The attacking midfielder joins the Rothosen on loan from Arsenal. Stefan Kuntz: “A classic playmaker with a lot of creativity.”
Hamburger SV have made their second signing of deadline day, with a second Arsenal player joining the Rothosen. After Sambi Lokonga’s deal earlier in the day, Fabio Vieira has also made the move to HSV. The 25-year-old midfielder, who was most recently on loan at FC Porto, has signed for the Rothosen for the remainder of the 2025/26 season. “We set out to make one more midfield signing. By signing Fabio, we’ve filled the last position in our attack with a high-quality player,” said HSV board member for sport Stefan Kuntz. He continued, “Fabio is a classic playmaker with a lot of creativity. As a result, he’ll give us a lot of options up front.”
Director of football Claus Costa was similarly delighted with the signature of the internationally experienced attacking midfielder, who has made eleven Champions League appearances in addition to 20 in the Europa League: “Fabio is a technically strong attacking midfielder with a great left foot. He plays with a lot of freedom and can add important impetus in the final third with the penultimate or final ball. He is not only a boost for our attack in that sense, but also because of his dangerous long-distance shooting.”

Porto, London, Hamburg
Fabio Daniel Ferreira Vieira was born in Santa Maria da Feira. When he was eight years old, he joined FC Porto’s academy, where he spent the entirety of his footballing adolescence save for a year-long stint on loan Padroense FC (Season 2015/16). Vieira made his professional debut aged 20 for the historic Portuguese side which is located not far away from his hometown. In total, Vieira made 118 appearances (15 goals, 24 assists) for the "Azuis e Brancos", including 42 games last season when he was loaned back to his old club from Arsenal FC.
The 5’7” creative lynchpin moved to the Gunners in 2022/23. Since then, he played 49 competitive games for the London club, bagging three goals and registering ten assists in the process. Now, the former Portugal youth international, who was named Player of the Tournament at the 2021 U21 Euros and suffered defeat at the hands of a Germany side coached by Stefan Kuntz, is looking to cause a stir at HSV. “I had really good talks with the head coach. From the very beginning, he made me feel as though he fully believed in my talent and wanted to sign me for the team at all costs. That was one of the main reasons why I wanted to come here,” noted Vieira, looking forward to his second overseas club. “The fans, the stadium, basically the conditions here at the club are unbelievable. I’m a player who feels at home in the final third. I hope that I can help the club achieve its aims with goals and assists and can’t wait to get started.” The midfielder will sport the number 20 for HSV. Bem-vindo, Fabio!
